I was thinking last night about the whole process, and realized consciously that -- as a Federal employee -- there's no way to avoid paying taxes. They're taken out of every paycheck without fail. In fact, every year we show the IRS how much we deserve to have refunded.

It really should be that simple for everyone. That's not a flat tax, that's a simpler approach to a complex subject.

And now, I shall demonstrate the proper usage of a tea bag: hot water <--- dunk until dark enough; add milk. Drink.

That is all.

My mom tried to explain to me that, if done properly, you should have no refund. Otherwise, she says, your money is pretty much sitting, not gaining interest as it does nothing.

No thanks. I'd prefer my little-extra withheld, and then get the refund as a nice little windfall.

One year, I owed the Fed $36 in taxes, and my state DoR owed me $35. That's the closest I've ever gotten to zero-sum.
