The wood floors were "done" on Tuesday, allowing us to breathe in the vapors of polyurethane from then till today, and they're supposed to do the final coat today, meaning more vapors until Saturday.

This is on top of all the pollen being released by the trees.

::death glare at trees::

If we didn't need them so much....I'd be chopping them down for firewood. Firewood! Do you hear me?!?! In my fireplace!

*hack wheeze*

The floors look lovely. Heck, the entire renovation looks fabulous, and we haven't even painted anything. It's all grey drywall with white splotches of spackle and drywall compound, combined with nice new wooden cabinets and trim. Lovely, I tell ya.

Today is Earth Day, ironically enough. The Earth is killing me here. It's also "Take Your Child To Work Day", which is an interested if twisted concept. Originally it was "Take Your Daughter", and the whole point was to show girls that women were capable of doing anything, thereby empowering the girls. A good point, if a little less than what girls really need, but still a worthy start. An attempt, at least, to overcome the societal programming that girls are bad in math and science, and should be focused on nursing/teaching/lesser jobs. So, how did it end up including the boys as well? I do want my son to know that girls -- and boys -- are capable of doing well in life, and that he should work hard to get the kind of job/education/ profession that means something to him. I have brought him with me on other days, and talked about my profession, as well as the importance of doing well in school.

I'm torn here. He deserves to have a chance to attend these sessions, but does he have to do it on a day that was originally intended for girls?

Maybe I'm just too grumpy about the whole thing.
