Well. As [livejournal.com profile] i_calql8 pointed out, I haven't mentioned the rest of the horde since Buzz breathed his last.

It's gotten cold enough that Kedgie requires under-the-cover access to stay warm. Mind you, she is a long-haired cat (a Maine Coon, in fact), who should not require any such assistance from her humans, but she does, and we do. Last night I had to get out of my warm spot in the bed to go all the way around the bed and turn off the light on Honey's side, because Kedgie was under the covers with her and she couldn't reach. I did it because I love them both. Later in the night, she shifted to her more usual spot between our pillows, against Honey's shoulders. When I woke this morning, she was sitting on top of me, giving me the satisfied Look.

Brady at that time was snuggled up against my ankle, where he had the extra blanket to sleep upon. Right now he's somewhere in the house, probably under the bed in a warm spot, asleep since before dinner time. He's such a teenager, that cat. When he sleeps, he sometimes ignores the call for dinner. Oh, well, if I can't find him, he doesn't eat.

All the upstairs animals got their rabies vaccines today. Athena did not run to the bedroom, so it was just the intranasal vaccine that she didn't like. Each of them got a treat after, which made them immensely happy. I also gave Kedgie some milk, and Brady some kitty treats.

Cinder and BT will get their vaccine in a year or two -- their schedule is different. I have the tags now (and need to pack them up for Riki), all 500 of them, and pulled off 6 for the gang. Cinder and her sister are the oldest in the house, but are still doing well for 15 year old cats. BT has what feels like a lipoma on the back of her head, just behind her left ear; it's round, encapsulated, and totally within the skin, so it's not likely to be anything else (except a cyst, and it doesn't feel hollow). Cinder has the typical clumping fur issues that require the clippers, but she doesn't fuss about being clipped. In her mind, I'm just grooming her a little more noisily than usual. I stuck the open can of fud in front of her and she barely noticed my presence with the clippers. Oddly enough, BT never gets those clumps -- her fur is much more silky although just as long. If I can get a decent picture of her, I'll post it; she's a very cute brown tabby -- just doesn't have the brains that her sister does.

The dogs, though, continue to be both wonderful and exasperating. We shifted to penning them in the upstairs/front room, which allows them to get to the front door and greet us, but it also allows them to tear into things in the front room. We came home yesterday to find a strange powder on the rugs. It turned out to be Bisquick, from the camping storage bin. Oopsie! Good thing they didn't successfully open that bottle of cooking oil.

But now our pillows are free from shreddage. Nice new bouncy soft pillows, with our flannel bedding on to keep us warm at night. Our room is coldest, since we're too far away from the thermostat and we have an open crawlspace underneath. The insulation is waiting on the completion of the cable repair, which we haven't done yet -- something about needing to crawl around in there at night which doesn't appeal to us, so we were planning to do that surgery today, only we got busy. Tomorrow will be busier, and that brings us back to the usual weekday arrival home after dark. It's just the connection to the bedroom that's gone; the splitter corroded and the line to that tv pulled off. I have all the necessary items for committing neurosurgery, and we just need to get in there. Luckily the patient is stable, and Honey doesn't mind watching only CBS via broadcast (she's a fan of NBC news shows), and the main tv in the family room is fully functional.

So much to do.
