A Good Death
May. 11th, 2011 02:25 pmIt was as good as I could manage one. I gave her a tranquilizer and a sedative/analgesic, then an anesthetic. She was resting in my arms, purring until the anesthetic took hold. Once she was no longer purring, I gave her the euthanasia solution and she was gone like that. The FG was here to help hold her and me. After that, I let Brady and Cleo sniff her to say goodbye, then wrapped her in a bit of an old sheet that used to be on the bed, a flannel sheet I used to use all winter long. We took her over to the crematorium, where the guy recognized me (even though it's been almost two years since the last one). I'll be able to pick up her ashes on Friday.
She was ready to go; she didn't fuss about any of the injections and just purred until she was too deeply asleep to purr.
