Bwaa ha ha haaa! Best Line Evar!
May. 10th, 2007 09:05 pmOK, I admit having read the Pern series by Anne McCaffrey (and my grandmother adored her books too). When I stumbled across this essay by Liz Henry on the Feminist SF Blog (http://blogs.feministsf.net/?p=152), I couldn't help but ROFL at this comment:
The *real* reason Lessa and Mardra have drama… All the Weyrwomen are each others’ ex and current girlfriends…
You know you have to read the essay, and then all the comments. It's a priceless look at the rampant sexism of Anne McCaffrey, and it made me realize just why Lessa wasn't my favorite character -- Menolly was, up until she married Sebell (sell-out! sell-out!).
But that comment just slays me. Oh, the angst! Oh, the drama! Oh, the absolute bitchery that takes place in the entire community!
And once again, I am excruciatingly happy that I never stayed in one place long enough to get caught up in the community like that.
