That was a complete disaster! Last night, I attempted to leave work and go home. After 45 minutes of moving at about 1 mile per hour, I turned around and drove that distance in 15 minutes. I could move only North or South; East or West was totally stopped -- everyone was stuck in the biggest snarls I've ever seen. I gave up and went to my friends' house to spend the night with them. Even though the power went out (transformers were blowing as I drove and trees were dropping all over), their house is naturally quite warm, so I was comfortable. The power came on this morning at 7:57 -- how nice of them -- and I walked to work despite knowing that driving was probably going to be easier than last night. Sure enough, the roads are clear -- how nice of them -- with hardly any traffic, but walking was preferable at this point.

The Ex had to be cajoled last night into leaving her apartment (and getting dressed!) to go take care of "our" dogs. Yeah, she fussed about leaving, and it took her about 45 minutes to go a mile, maybe slightly more than a mile. Had she been thinking, she could have done the animals in the afternoon, before the storm hit. Next time, I'll make sure to prep her in case another storm hits like this. At least she made it there, which would have been impossible for me. One of my colleagues posted on FB that she had arrived home 6 hours after leaving work -- a distance of 12 miles. I would have run out of gas before getting home.

Oy.

Anyway, here at work, about to make some oatmeal and a cup of tea.

Memo to Ex: Weather forecasts. Use them.

Of course, cold is always better than heat, livingwise. When our power went out during the AZ monsoons, it was godawful hot and humid, with no relief. At least, in the cold, you can pile on the blankets and clothing and you'll eventually get warm, even at night.

And, for the record, the best Robin interjection evar is "Holy priceless collection of Etruscan snoods!" I wish I was making that up.

*leaves PBRK (does FG know about PBRK?) next to the tea*

Heck yeah!! She got to work from home because of the forecasted weather..and Sonny was with her all day, because the schools closed in anticipation of Said Weather. She just didn't wanna..didn't wanna leave, didn't wanna be bothered, didn't wanna DO IT...serves her right. The dogs deserved better than being cooped up all day. I'll bet she wants me to start taking them to a kennel for the daytime.

Anyway, in my current physiologic state, I don't need much in the way of blankets even when the ambient temp inside drops to 55 degrees F (14C). Last night, I ended up kicking off the single thin blanket I'd requested, because I was getting Too Warm. I do agree that it is much nicer to Get Warm Together versus trying to cool off when the power is out. Been there, done that.

No, the FG does not know about PBRK. Do I dare tell her? What happens if she likes it too? Then the competition for consumption increases logarithmically! THE HORROR!

I suppose I could make some for her, see what happens. I do owe my friends some pie, and maybe I could make PBRK for them too. This all depends on (1) being able to shop at the grocery store on my way home and (2) being able to get home. Hmph.

Decisions, decisions. I need more tea.

To withhold such knowledge from FG would be truly heinous, bear...if you truly care about her, then she must know of the awesomeness of the PBRK.

'Sides, you can always make more. And with FG helping, you can make twice as much. ;)

I like how you think. Since she has power at her house, and it is Thursday night, I may just attempt to stay at her place tonight. I have to persuade the Ex to deal with the house and dogs...but since power is out at her apartment, that should not be too difficult. I am about to hunt down hot food to bribe her with. This requires me to venture into the local grocery stores and find Hot Food...if I can find a grocery store with power.

Cover me, I'm going in!

Must...resist...saying..."that's what...she said"...

If you do make PBRK together, I want partial credit. Good luck! ;)

...but you didn't resist! LOL

All right, I've warned her that I am required to introduce her to the decadent sweetness of PBRK, although you may have to send me the recipe again. It's around somewhere. Full credit will be applied to you, plus "brownie points"...can't resist that!

By the way, it should come as no surprise to you that I own a very Democratic t-shirt: "Lick Bush in 92". One of my favorites, really.

I just wanna do my part in advancing your terrific relationship with FG. :)

The recipe's all over teh intarwebs. Just websearch "peanut butter rice krispies treats" or something like that. That's how I did it.

Off the top of my head (not literally, that'd be messy), you'll need PB, RK, and white corn syrup, with semi-sweet chips to melt and make the frosting.

She is excited about the possibility of PBRK, and I have most of the ingredients at her place. We just didn't get around to making anything last night...ok, a little whoopie, but nothing food-like. I have to grab the karo syrup before I head back to her place tonight.

And my snowshoes.

Wow. Some snow. Is this usual for you, this time of year?

Snow is usual. Disaster on the roads, not so much. Part of what happened was the gridlock -- traffic snarls -- also trapped the snow removal machines, so they could not clear the roads for the traffic to move off of...the total amounts of snow were not unusual, and certainly nowhere near the epic snows of last year (kinahora). It was just a planning and strategic disaster of epic proportions.

Oh, and the power failures led to traffic lights going out, which made Things Worse, because no one in this area ever seems to feel like obeying the "traffic light out = four-way stop sign" rule. Oh, no. That would be fair and reasonable.

Ugh.

One of my colleagues took 6 hours to get home, a distance of 12 miles. This is most decidedly Not Usual.

If people had only headed home at noon, there wouldn't have been that big batch of abandoned cars on the roads.

The government didn't release people earlier, only said that they could leave 2 hours early...and at 4 pm, that was too late.

Yeah, the Post quoted the guy who made the decision for the feds and he basically said he wasn't sure and did the wrong thing. Which, of course, Pepco hasn't said.
