1. Hm. I'd go to San Francisco and visit with my Auntie P, shop, trawl through the bookstores of Berkeley, drop in on some of the vintners of Napa, and stop by Uncle S's veterinary practice as well.
2. It's close enough to DC that we can easily get in for cultural things, and yet far enough away to be Not-DC.
