Always sounds strange with new ears on. Some sounds are crisper than before; others seem muffled -- and the brain is insisting that nothing sounds right!. The brain's got to take a few days to adjust and then suddenly all will be right. :-)

Similar to new-glasses adjustment?

Yes, similar to that. :-) Except glasses don't come with brightness attenuators or preprogrammed magnification changes for the up-close versus far away. ;-) All this newfangled digital technology! Why, they have tones to let me know when the hearing aid's on, fercryinoutloud, and one for when the battery's getting low. I can tell when the aid is on, just by listening, and if the battery drops -- well, I can tell when I suddenly can't hear anything. :-) Too much software for an old hand like me.

I just purchased a new hearing-aid for my left ear that was the same make and model as the old one. I changed the settings to exactly the way it was on the old one... and it sounded different. I still had to 'fiddle with it' for awhile... I'm lucky, I am still using the old analog behind-the-ear ones.

It's always going to sound different, even if you keep everything the same. These are digitals like the just-previous pair, but they've got the directional mikes and the programs and the protection settings and ARGH!

But it's getting better. Next week I shall go back and twiddle with the settings and see if things are more normal after that.
