Weekend Mid-Day Update

Well, the Son is home from a week at Boy Scout camp, during which he accomplished a great deal: merit badges in Archery, Swimming, and First Aid; and he came in third for the Mile Swim. He also collected an alarming number of cuts, bruises and scrapes along his legs and feet. After a quick lunch of spaghetti with sauce and a few bites of "Buffalo Wings", he tried to read for twenty minutes while we soaked his feet in warm soapy water. He fell asleep, so we got good blackmail photos. Now he's got his feet up on the recliner, watching cartoons and I'm sure he'll fall asleep again.

I'm on call this weekend, but it's been quiet so far. No, this won't jinx me; it's the Friday afternoons that I never say anything about being quiet. Weekends are usually quiet, and when they're not quiet (medically speaking), it's usually something fun like an emergency surgery for bloat.

I have to finish up posting the outline of my presentation on Sterilants and Disinfectants, and then start doing some lit searches to make this more of a paper and not so much of a presentation.

But right now I plan to drink some freshly brewed Jasmine tea, browse the latest at ML and LJ, and take a nap myself.

I have no idea -- it suddenly stopped being accessible in between shifting from one thread to another. Something must have gone out. Then I went off to do other things, so I don't know if it's back yet.

And by "blackmail photos", I naturally mean to say "photos that we can show his prospective Significant Other" and have a good laugh at his expense.

We had bookgroup today and our boy scout was off for his week at camp. They must rotate them around.

I'm sure they do rotate the groups -- there's a lot of scouts to go.

The big trip is to Philmont Scout Ranch, and our troop hadn't been selected for more than 60 years, but they got lucky in the lottery and finally sent a group (they left just a few days ago).

At which point does the number of cuts become alarming? I take it that the mathematical formula involves the subject's age, and that of his/her mom.

l=location, s=severity (where severity=depth x length); p = pain, a = acting, and π = pie (or alternative dessert), A = age of subject and MI = maternal instinct. (p) is actually the result of an integral equation that incorporates the number of nerve endings firing at the time of the injury, the length of time since the injury, and the amount of sympathy that can be generated by such an injury.

It's more complicated than you realized, eh?

There's a lot of trial and error, all right. The child creates the trials, and because of your errors, he/she will spend years in therapy. If you're lucky.
