And now for some Yeats

The Second Coming )

Ah, he had a way with words. Comes of being Irish, so it does. ;-) Although he was born in Dublin, he said (somewhere) that Sligo was very important to him. All I can say is, he never was in Killashandra, then. :-P ;-)

No, I'm not biased at all, am I [livejournal.com profile] hawkwing_lb?? :-D

Because she started it..

..by reminding me of John Donne, which then reminded me of Tennyson:

"Sunset and evening star
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea,

But such a tide as moving seems asleep,
Too full for sound and foam,
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home.

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For though from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crossed the bar."

and that, in turn, reminded me of Tennyson's Ulysses, which I'd once memorized great chunks of, just because I liked it.
