So, once again, Mother Nature swoops down and delivers kittens in need of fostering. This time, a friend-of-a-friend had rescued four black and white (aka tuxedo) kittens orphaned after MomCat met with an untimely end. Since the rescuer is soon to leave for a month away from home, she needed another poor sap person to take them in. Luckily for me, I have an extra bedroom, being where the Sonny has his bed. I set up the kitty condo cage for them, and now I have four climbing, screaming, three-week-old kittens in there. Adorable, really.

At the same time, I have a handyman installing a new sink in the upstairs bathroom, so he gets to hear them mewing while he works. I'm downstairs, working on proposals (yes, even on vacation, I promised). The new toilet, third and last of the replacements needed, has been finished. He's good, this Bulgarian; he came highly recommended by the FF's cousin, and she's another tough cookie.

Speaking of the FF, she's still staying with her sister, taking turns with MiL; she emailed today to say that she was also going to meet an old college friend of hers for a little time away from the family. She hasn't said how her mom is doing, which means it's not going too well. I hope it's an easy transition, although it's certainly not very fast...

Oh, and Loki is clearly in his last days. He shows no signs of pain or distress, but he's not eating any food any more; he simply rests in his bed when I come in. He won't let me approach him, or I'd have already eased him on to his next life; I don't want to stress him out by grabbing him. So for now, I'll leave him be. I've got all the medications in the box nearby his bed, and I can finish things quickly if he allows. Junie B is a sweet loving cat; I plan to integrate her into the family once Brady is out of danger (and can handle stress again).

The Cosmic Cat Replacement Board must know where you live. Best of luck with the little kittens! Also, please post pictures!

Oh, yes, the CCRB has me on file. Has done, for years! I will try to post pictures later today, once the Handy Man is gone. (They are adorable, really.)

I do NOT need more cats. I do NOT need more cats. (I already have as many as is permitted by local bylaw.)

I am a sucker for black and white cats.

They stand in their food and push each other out of the way with their heads while nomming as fast as they can, which isn't very fast at all, because they're still wobbly little kittens. They climb that cage and push each other out of the way with their heads in order to claw me, because I'm the new momma. I will have to try to videocapture that.

working on proposals
I thought you already got the proposal you wanted. ;)

I'm sorry about Loki, too...never gets any easier, I imagine.

Yes, I got the proposal I wanted, and now I have to work on the proposals that other people want...but I only critique them, before sending them to the review committee. At least my proposal only had to be reviewed by step-daughter (to be).

Yeah, Loki is a bummer -- when I got the paperwork from Marilee's friends, I had called the veterinarian who took the biopsies. Getting the diagnosis was a mixed blessing -- she didn't have to deal with the terminal diagnosis -- but I had to take him in knowing he was terminal. Still, he's had a restful life for the past nine months. (Chemo in his case would have just possibly prolonged the course of the disease and made life uncomfortable along the way.) I keep apologizing to him, but there was nothing I could do for this cancer.

I'm so sorry for your situation. My dear old fellow Nero got an unusual type of lymphoma, and we fought it all the way down, but it beat him, and damn near broke me at the same time. Best of luck, and I hope Loki has a peaceful way out.

Those kittens look just like little versions of my current cat George (or Jorj, as I like to call him because that's how he'd spell it, according to "cheezburger" logic). My housemate [livejournal.com profile] blastedheath says "M'neeep!" If I didn't already have two cats, I'd take all of them when they were a little more grown up. :)

As soon as I can, I'll euthanize Loki, if he doesn't shuffle off this mortal coil faster than I can catch him. I'm a veterinarian.

I'll get more pics up, as I decide on names and so forth, so you can compare them to your handsome Jorj!
